Artist Statement

In the fall of 2020, I decided to create a documentary styled photographic series of my mother and father's relationship. Their love has faded and contempt has grown between them over the years. This decline is primarily because of my father's history with drugs, alcohol and lying, and my mother's constant enraged behavior. Although my father has been sober for a while now, he still constantly lies to his family. As a result of living with this, my mother's mental health has diminished, causing her to develop a short temper and depression. Her complete loss of faith in her husband has caused her to take out this frustration on her kids. This has created an atmosphere of distrust in their marriage and for us as a family. The photographs I have captured utilize a narrative structure which is intended to act as a mirror for them to see just how failed their trust in each other is.
