Millennial trends have shifted toward finding more meaningful life experiences outside of a 9 to 5. Throughout my life, I've seen more and more students out of high school, leaving the traditional college path to pursue a freer lifestyle and schedule. Time is a valuable commodity today, and the up-and-coming generations are more and more aware of that. Trace Sustainable Hotel is about taking back our experiences and using them to better the built environment.
This space is created for those who are already conscious of their carbon footprint and product use. In recent years, sustainability has been a constant topic, especially among millennials and younger age ranges, as our planet is depleting before us. Leading companies hold the majority of the power in this, as their waste is insurmountable compared to the waste a single-family home creates. By changing the way the hospitality industry acts towards the environment, and their methods to rebuild the built environment, designers can address the harm created by the industry. Conscious design is not only simple but can also be seamless, which is something I aim to implement in my own work. When traveling, having a meaningful experience does not have to be subsequent to making smart decisions regarding your carbon footprint.
Too often, it is not the motive of large hospitality industries to reduce their waste for the sake of income. Conscious design challenges these methods and proves what it means to be considerate of your travelers and the future we pay forward. By using the stepping stones previously put into place and regenerating existing systems, the hospitality industry can better assess the damage done and alter the methods that have failed in the past. This method of thinking allows us to take something with us and educate the community we are serving, which is the intention behind my practice.
