Nasheli Ortiz-González 

Department Chair, Associate Professor
Born in Caguas, Puerto Rico and with 20 years in the fashion industry, Ortiz-González’s design experience includes working as technical designer, draper, tailor and seamstress in couture sewing techniques for designers based in New York, Dominican Republic, Italy and Puerto Rico. She is the current chair and associate professor in the Fashion Design department at Moore College of Art & Design. Beyond academia, Ortiz-González is part of the women collective Taller Malaquita in Puerto Rico; co-founder and head designer of 22 Studio, a women-led transdisciplinary design practice; and the owner of the fashion label Nasheli Juliana, which works with research of political, social and religious issues from an apparel point of view. Precious Lovell 

Associate Professor
Precious Lovell transitioned from a 20-year career in fashion design in New York City to one of contemporary artist and educator. She holds a master’s degree in fibers and surface design and a BFA in fashion design. Lovell’s socio-cultural creative practice explores the narrative potential of cloth and clothing, predominantly focusing on the African diaspora. Lovell was awarded a fellowship at the Instituto Sacatar in Bahia Brazil in 2017. She spent two months collaborating with Afro-Brazilian textile artisans. She has traveled to 45 countries researching and collecting textiles and clothing. Lovell’s work has been exhibited in the U.S. and internationally. View full profile

Heather Ujiie 

Interdisciplinary Assistant Professor
Heather Ujiie grew up in NYC’s Greenwich Village, part of a family of artist educators, and believes her creativity comes from a lively bohemian childhood. She is an Interdisciplinary Assistant Professor at Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia, and her installations and artwork have been exhibited both nationally and Internationally. She has participated in exhibits at Hangaram Museum of art, and the Seoul Art Center in Korea, The Salon Art & Design Fair at the Park Ave. Armory in NYC, The State Museum of Pennsylvania, Delaware Art Museum, Hunterdon Museum of Art, Racine Art Museum, Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, Philadelphia International Airport, and the Samuel S.
