Chair of Design Arts, Professor 
Kathryn Dethier is chair of Design Arts at Moore College of Art & Design, where she has taught since 2009. She is an accomplished scholar, administrator and full professor in the fields of architecture and interior design. She joined Moore after having taught and served in administrative roles for more than a decade at Drexel University and Philadelphia University. Dethier’s interests include sustainable design, an enduring and evolving topic critical to the practice of architecture, and the intersection of design and humanitarian action for crisis responses to disasters, migration and immigration. View full profile

Francine Martini’s teaching philosophy can be summed up in one word: explore! She aims to create an environment where students can explore their ideas and test their limits while assimilating the knowledge needed to succeed in the industry. Developing creative design solutions involves exploring all avenues of design and seeing the world in a larger framework and understanding that all is connected—experimentation, inspiration and information—as design is not a linear process. By following an inquiry-based process and motivating students to test and push the envelope, designs develop more creatively; students are encouraged to expand their thinking and to look at design more critically. View full profile
