James Johnson received an MFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a BFA from Marywood University. His art encompasses installation, sculpture, photography, and live activity, and makes reference to architecture and issues surrounding representation, economics and power. He is influenced by conceptual art and minimalism. Recognitions include an Independence Foundation Fellowship and two Pennsylvania Council of the Arts Fellowships. He was an Acquisition Finalist for the West Prize and completed a residency at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts.
