Moore’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) is working diligently behind the scenes to prepare for different scenarios regarding novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), depending on how the situation may evolve over time.

In addition, we are arranging for the continuity of College operations, even in the case of a campus closure. In preparation for such an event, the Academic Affairs department has developed plans for faculty to continue teaching classes online.

For Faculty

During this time, it is important to accommodate students who are requesting to stay home due to illness, including clearly communicating opportunities and expectations around alternative assignments or makeup work. Please take care to ease existing policies on missed or late coursework for ill students, as well as standard attendance policies, as necessary.

Moore’s primary responsibility is to provide a safe learning environment for students and faculty. In the event that Moore’s campus needs to close for an extended period of time, we have developed a contingency plan for instruction. This may include educational modules of online instruction through Moodle, Moore email, Google Docs, Skype, Connelly Library digital resources, take-home assignments and other forms of remote learning that can be completed at home.

Following the announcement of a campus closure, students can expect to receive further instructional information from their individual course faculty via their Moore email.

If a student does not have internet access at home, they should contact the Academic Affairs Office at 215.965.4012 in order to make individual arrangements, should the need occur.

If a Faculty Member Becomes Ill:

Faculty should contact their Department Chair, the Academic Affairs Office and Human Resources.

Faculty should also refer to the Coronavirus-specific Faculty Leave Policy for further information, sent via email on Friday, March 6, 2020.

Moore will use typical channels of communication to announce a school closure, which include Moore’s website, Moore’s text alert system and your Moore email.

Faculty and students should check their Moore email and their course-specific Moodle page daily for course instruction information.

Accessing Moore Email:

Method 1: Webmail 

Go to mail.moore.edu. Login with the same credentials as your current windows login. Your username is not your entire email address.

Method 2: Mobile Device

You can add your Moore email as an additional mail account on any iPhone or Android phone. Separate instructions with screenshots are attached. (Android instructions have been prepared using a Samsung Galaxy S10e. There are many models of Android phones available; your phone setup may vary slightly from our instructions page.)

Method 3: Outlook Mail Client 

If you have the Microsoft Outlook desktop app installed, you can add your Moore email account to it. There are several versions of Microsoft Outlook and the setup may vary slightly between versions. Instructions were prepared using Outlook 2016 and Outlook for Mac 2019.

Grading and Attendance

Unless a student becomes ill, all grading and attendance protocols and policies remain the same. Please refer to the Student Handbook on Moore’s website The E-Learning Policies and Resources. This will provide additional information on attendance, student participation and academic integrity for online course instruction.

BFA & Graduate Courses – Using Alternative Assignments

A full breakdown of those alternative assignments will be sent out in the event of a campus closure. Faculty should refer to Moodle as a resource guide. If you become ill and display flu-like symptoms, you should call Diane Azuma, Registered Nurse at 215.965.4032.

The symptoms to monitor are as follows: Fever, Cough, Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

If you are sick, you should take the same steps you that you would normally take when sick, including focusing on caring for your health, contacting your healthcare provider and not attending class. In the event that you miss class due to illness, please work with your instructor on any necessary arrangements for making up coursework.
