Dom Streater’s Superpowers:
- Love for color and composition
- Interest in research and fashion history
- Passion/weakness for Rick & Morty
Dom Streater ’10 is a Fashion Design alum and visiting Fashion Design assistant professor at Moore. She is a two-time Project Runway winner, and has more than a decade of industry experience working for major brands like Urban Outfitters. She is also the creator and founder of the American eponymous brand, Dom Streater, which specializes in creating limited edition pieces that focus on thoughtful craftsmanship and curated garments, lifestyle items and objects.
“As a graduate of Moore’s Fashion Design department, I understand firsthand the powerful role that our educators played in shaping our skills and igniting our creativity,” said Streater. “I feel honored that in my role as a visiting assistant professor, I will have the chance to support the students at Moore with the same tools, access, opportunities and education that helped shape my trajectory in the world of fashion.”
Streater recalls thriving as a student in the unique environment that Moore provides. “Some art schools and design schools don't really feel welcoming. They're a little bit more cutthroat and that's fine. That’s kind of the nature of the industry we work in,” she said. “But I liked how warm Moore was and, not to sound corny, but it was a safe space in terms of atmosphere. So that made it easier to be creative.”
With her extensive experience in various aspects of the fashion industry, Streater credits her time at Moore for preparing her for a broad range of skills. “Part of why I came here is because of the diversity of electives that you can take, textiles being one of them. That was something that I focused on a lot and has had a huge influence on my career. Print design and surface science [helped me] to be successful in the industry.”
