Belena Chapp, who helped hundreds of Moore students find summer internships and jobs, has retired. For nearly 15 years, she served as director of the Locks Career Center, where, in addition to helping students, she was a mentor and consultant to countless alumni.
Among the many positions she has held or practiced are artist, curator, museum director and teacher.
"I’m most proud of helping Moore students and alumni identify their own strengths and developing the skills they need to pursue their career goals,” she said. “I heard from so many of them when I posted my retirement announcement on LinkedIn. Their kind comments lifted my spirits and made me feel like I have made an important contribution while at Moore.”
She is also proud of selecting Veronica Scarpellino for the role of assistant director of Locks. “She was a terrific partner for more than 10 years. I know I've left the Career Center in good hands with her.”
Chapp has made lifelong friends with colleagues and alumni. She’s excited to explore new places and opportunities.
“I'm very interested in politics and after a period of rest and relaxation, I will get more involved in the social causes in which I believe. I feel fortunate that I have the ability to take this step at this time,” she said. She's looking forward to writing more.
“I've been working on a spy novel for a couple of years. Maybe I will now have the time to finally finish it!"
