Gold and silver glitter rained down and 'Celebration' blared from speakers as Moore's Black Student Union surprised first-year student Laila Islam with BSU's first Art Kit Scholarship.

"This was such a cute surprise!" Islam said. "Thank you all so much."

Islam, a Curatorial Studies major, had already purchased an art kit, but said the scholarship money would be very useful.

"There are a lot of classes where I still need some more art supplies," she said. "I'll also put some in my savings, but this is amazing!" Islam was selected for the scholarship because of her high school GPA and her portfolio.

The BSU raised the money for the scholarship through a bake sale, art show/poetry slam and an anonymous donor.
