Moore’s Graduate Studies community consists of unique programs in Socially-Engaged Art, Socially-Engaged Studio Art and Art Education with an Emphasis in Special Populations that prepare motivated people of all identities with the skills, knowledge and resources to become professional artists, designers and teachers. Here are exciting updates happening with graduate students past and present, as well as faculty members.
Current MFA student Qiaira Riley will present her work as part of the Art + Writing series at Moore on February 11th at 11:30 in the Library Instruction Lab at Moore.
Current MFA Chelsey Webber-Brandis and MA alumni Kristen Shahverdian have had their proposal accepted to Common Field and will be presenting in Houston this spring.
Current MFA Suzanne Kahn has work in the current exhibition The Heavy Weight of Pearls, which was selected as part of the Center For Emerging Visual Artists (CFEVA) Annual Members Exhibition, on view through February 21.
MFA alum Omenihu Amachi has been accepted and is currently enrolled in the PhD program at the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts (IDSVA) where he recently completed a residency in Mexico.
MA alum Yaroub Al Obaidi is working at the Penn Museum and invites everyone to know about Galentine's Day, Thursday, February 13.
MFA alum Dawn Kramlich recently had two works in a group exhibition at NAPOLEON in Philadelphia in January and will also be in a group exhibition at University City Arts League in May, titled Going Sane, curated by Jeremy Sims. This will include works by Shwarga Bhattacharjee, Dawn Kramlich, Don Pilcher, Scott Schultheis, Jeremy Sims and Kayte Terry.
Faculty member Hammam Aldouri will be giving a paper at the Southeast Association for the Continental Tradition annual conference at the end of February. The paper is titled "Hegel's 'We': Notes on a Dialectical Contradiction." In addition to this, Hammam's essay, "Baudelaire Contra Manet? Rethinking the Influence of The Painter of Modern Life," has been accepted for publication in Nonsite.org.
Faculty member Shira Walinsky has an exhibition February 8 at Fringe Salon in South Philly.
Graduate Program Director Daniel Tucker continues his curatorial residency with Mural Arts and will open a curated exhibition titled Power Map at Drexel University’s Pearlstein Gallery on June 17th featuring the work of Marie Alarcon, Ken McFarlane, Eva Wǒ, Mark Strandquist and Courtney Bowles (w/ Tripod), and Studio 22 (Nasheli Juliana Ortiz, Marién Vélez and Lorna Mulero).
