A design by Alina Figueroa, a junior Illustration major from Pennsauken, N.J., has been selected to be used as the backdrop for the Century 21 Department Store presents FASHION SHOW 2018 on May 11, 2018, in The Barnes Foundation's Annenberg Court.
Figueroa's work was selected from more than 30 entries in a contest among junior Illustration majors. She calls the winning piece Thermal Earth.
"I was inspired by French director and artist Thomas Blanchard to experiment with a medium and a way of creating art that I have never done before to create an organic form of abstract art," she said. Figueroa said the piece was interesting and fun because she had little control over how it would come out. "Using paint water, then mixtures of paint with milk and canola oil, it resulted in different layers on top of the water."
She said this piece was actually the result following the creation of a piece called Galaxies, and was what remained in the tray after she dumped the liquid out.
