More than 100 educators and artists from around the tristate region were welcomed November 3 to Moore's 9th Annual Art Education for Special Populations Fall 2018 Symposium: “Understanding Our Humanity Through the Arts."
The day began with keynote speaker Justin Brown, who led participants through his Diversity Awareness Program (DAP). The purpose of DAP was to encourage diversity and cultural unity in all areas of life among arts educators and their students, through energetic and vigorous engagements of dynamic discussions on issues and ideas that encouraged attendees to become more culturally aware and conscious.
Afternoon session speakers included Sika Wheeler, coordinator of the LGBT Equity Center at the University of Maryland; Christina Lukac, adaptive arts educator at Olney Charter High School; and Amanda Toma, special education teacher at Esperanza Academy Charter School.
The symposium was sponsored by A.C. Moore, which provided two gift cards as raffle items.
