Danielle Hoover is a senior visual designer at Hero Digital in Manayunk as well as an instructor of digital design at Moore College of Art & Design in the Continuing Education program. She is passionate about design and the impact it has on the end-user.
She fell in love with the problem-solving of graphic design as a way of recognizing and forming relationships between ideas and reality, and as a method for improving the connections between people and the products they use.
Hoover is also an assistant organizer at Design Brew PHL, where she has the opportunity to help organize monthly design events that help inspire others in the design community.
When she is not designing, you can usually find her exploring Philadelphia's food and beverage scene or taking Bikram Yoga and Flywheel classes in Center City. She loves to travel and has had the opportunity to explore many countries, most recently visiting family in Europe. She talked with Continuing Education Program Manager Meg Wolensky.
What brought you to Philadelphia?
I moved here to get my BFA in Graphic & Interactive Design at Tyler School of Art. I fell in love with Philadelphia and decided to remain here after graduating.
What have you been feeling inspired by?
As a way of finding daily inspiration, I installed a Chrome extension called Muzli, which instantly delivers inspirational design projects and news each time I open a new tab in my browser. It curates content from many different design sources like Dribbble, Behance, Awwwards, etc., all in one place.
What’s your biggest achievement?
The most rewarding thing has been seeing students have that sort of ‘ah-ha’ moment, and you realize they understand what you are teaching them.
What do you love about working for Moore College of Art & Design?
I love working for an organization that, at its core, was founded to empower women. I also love having the opportunity to teach and mentor students looking to expand their skill set or switch careers.
So far, what’s exceeded your expectations when working with the students in Moore’s CE program?
The students! It is wonderful to come to class and have students who are engaged, motivated and eager to learn.
