Moore Illustration students learned from children's book illustrator Christine Kornacki on a recent trip to New York City to the Society of Illustrators.

Kornacki, who has illustrated a number of books for the American Girl doll collection, spoke with the 36 sophomores and juniors in the main gallery of the Society on a dreary day. She brought along samples of her original illustrations for the students to examine.

The featured show at the Society that the students took in was The Art of MARCH: A Civil Rights Masterpiece. The exhibit walks visitors through the story of Congressman John Lewis's experience in the civil rights movement as depicted by the pen of MARCH trilogy illustrator Nate Powell.

The trip was led by faculty members Rich HarringtonJoe Kulka and Ulana Zahajkewycz. The students also had time to do some sketching and hanging out in the Society of Illustrators main gallery.
