To the Moore Community, and especially Moore Students:
Today marks one month since our remote learning efforts first commenced on Monday, March 23. This has been an unprecedented change for all of us, and I remain in awe of our resiliency and how we have come together as a community. From our recent donation of medical supplies to Jefferson Hospital, to student leaders creating virtual programs for fellow students, we have rallied together, and we are stronger for it.
To our students: I want to express how proud I am of each of you. While we may be remote, I want to remind you that Student Affairs is here for you. Both of our mental health counselors are still available Monday – Friday from 11 am to 7 pm. You can reach Andrea Bernstein from 11 am – 3 pm at 781.561.9001 or abernstein@moore.edu and Jo Coppola from 3pm – 7 pm at 484.424.9816 or jcoppola@moore.edu. Diane Azuma, our registered nurse, is also available at 267.961.3830 or dazuma@moore.edu. I strongly encourage you to take advantage of these resources, which can be so helpful during this challenging time.
It is important to do everything we can to stick together as a community, even while we are physically apart, and for each of us to do our part to lift each other’s spirits. It’s especially important as we begin the countdown to the end of the spring semester, which is a challenging time for our students, even when we’re on campus. As final projects and critiques become more visible on the horizon, Student Affairs is always here to help students keep their spirits up and to make sure that we all find time to have fun together and blow off some steam.
With that in mind, we’re proud to bring you our second annual SPIRIT WEEK, happening this week, April 20–24. Today, we’re throwing a Virtual Game Day from 8 am – 9 pm, where you can join the Minecraft’s Club server and design your own residence hall room, and maybe even win a prize for best design. On Tuesday, April 21, we’ll have an all-day Tea Party and stream two different versions of the film Alice in Wonderland, at 11:30 am and 7:30 pm, respectively. Show us your favorite mug or teacup on social media with the hashtag #MooreMugs and win a prize!. On Wednesday, April 22, we are celebrating Earth Day. Join Kimberley Fox, Director of Residence Life, at 11:30 am to make cards out of scrap paper, and then tune in again at 7:30 pm to join Residence Hall Director Jasmine Shulte, who will teach you tricks for sustainable weaving. Thursday, April 23, is Moore Spirit Day! Take a picture of yourself wearing your Moore gear and share your picture online using the #MooreSpirit. To end the week, on Friday, April 24, we will celebrate Sarah Peter Day. Join us at 11:30 am to hear from a panel of faculty, staff and students who will share their individual stories of empowerment. And at 7 pm, we will get together one last time to be sing Happy Birthday to our founder, Sarah Peter. Keep an eye out for something sweet in your mailbox so that we can celebrate as a community.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any member of the Student Affairs team if you need support. I know that we are living through an extraordinary time, but we will continue to get through this together. As Maya Angelou once said, “I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it.”
Best of luck for the remainder of the semester and stay safe.
Sincerely,
Dr. Joshua Wilkin
Dean of Students
