To the ever-growing Moore Community: In times of great difficulty, it is of the utmost importance to be grateful for the occasional moments of joy. I take joy in looking forward to what the future will bring—including the excitement of being back on campus together and how wonderful it will be to get to know a new class of bright and talented Moore students.
This past Saturday, it was our absolute pleasure (and joy!) to host this year’s iteration of Accepted Students Day, which was also our first-ever virtual Accepted Students Day. Potential members of Moore’s Class of 2024 joined us online to hear words of welcome and encouragement from across the full spectrum of our community—and I really mean the full spectrum! Students, faculty, staff and alumni have all heeded the call to send us video footage from home, to describe why they love Moore and to wish accepted students well as they make one of the biggest decisions of their young lives, right in the middle of an historic public health crisis. As we continue to host virtual recruitment events throughout the spring, additional videos will roll out on our website and social media channels, underscoring the dedication of the community at-large.
To everyone who participated in this venture, I want to say thank you. To say that I am humbled by your commitment to Moore, and to the positivity and consideration you have shown these students, is an enormous understatement.
Thank you, as well, to the future Moore students who joined us on Saturday, for your continued excitement about the College. As I said more than once in my own video, I truly believe that you belong at Moore. I hope you were able to see how welcomed you will be when you join us this fall, how well you will fit in and how exciting that time will be.
Over the past few weeks, I have heard from many people who have been kind enough to check in and ask how we are doing. I’m thrilled to let them know that even though we are physically apart, I feel the fabric of our community grow stronger every day. Over the past few weeks, we have transitioned from attending to the immediate concerns around our students’ safety to supporting them in this new territory of remote art and design education. Faculty have taken up the challenge beautifully, finding creative solutions and bringing new ideas to the table. Staff have supported each other in adjusting timelines and plans—and I can already sense that the lessons learned will propel our progress as an institution.
We have every bit of confidence that Moore will be around for at least another 172 years to come. Personally, I can’t wait to see the next evolution of the College!
