Moore College of Art & Design Welcomes Visiting Faculty Members to Award-Winning Fashion Department for Spring 2022

Philadelphia, PA— Moore College of Art & Design (Moore) is pleased to announce that two-time Project Runway winner, Moore alumna and Philadelphia-based textile/fashion designer, Dom Streater, will join Moore’s distinguished Fashion Design department for the spring 2022 semester, alongside fashion designer, illustrator and longtime educator Daniel Velasco.

“Moore has a significant reputation as a leading fashion design institution, and Streater and Velasco will only strengthen that reputation through their vast talent and expertise,” said Cecelia Fitzgibbon, president of Moore College of Art & Design. “The industry expertise of both visiting faculty combined—Streater’s strong design background and Velasco’s storied merchandising career—will build a new foundation of strength for our Fashion Design department and assist the College in its mission to help Moore students achieve creative growth and career success.”

Dom Streater will join Moore as a visiting assisting professor while continuing to serve as the creator and founder of the American eponymous brand, Dom Streater, which specializes in creating limited edition pieces that focus on thoughtful craftsmanship and curated garments, lifestyle items and objects. As a 2010 graduate of Moore, Streater will return to the Fashion Design department as a two-time winner of Project Runway, with over a decade of industry experience working for major brands including Urban Outfitters.

“As a graduate of Moore’s Fashion Design department, I understand firsthand the powerful role that our educators played in shaping our skills and igniting our creativity,” said Streater. “I feel honored that in my new role as a visiting assistant professor, I will have the chance to support the students at Moore with the same tools, access, opportunities and education that helped shape my trajectory in the world of fashion.”

Daniel Velasco has been a part of the Moore community for nearly three years, working as an adjunct professor in the BFA Fashion Design program and instructing Young Artists Workshop classes for high-school students. He will expand his role as a visiting assistant professor and as program head of Fashion Design. Velasco began his professional career in Venezuela as a graphic designer, co-founding an advertising agency servicing large-scale clients such as Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Energizer and others. Upon moving to the United States in 2011, he completed his Master of Fine Art in illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design, where he leveraged his lifelong love for the arts to advance his skills in fashion. Since then, Velasco has worked with leading international designers creating clothing for celebrities, including Katy Perry and Bella Thorne, and companies such as Sherri Hill and Kate McDonald Bridal. Velasco has pursued teaching for many years, first as a painting and sculpture instructor in Venezuela.

“Teaching is one of the purest forms of communication because, like illustration and design, it allows us to make connections while offering perspectives that have the power to positively influence the way others think creatively,” said Velasco. “As a member of Moore’s Fashion Design department, it is an honor to leverage my personal and professional experiences to help the next generation of designers see and achieve their highest heights.”
