Philadelphia, PA – Don’t miss your chance to check out the styles and trends of the season! Moore College of Art & Design presents F/W Showcase on Friday, December 7, 2018, 8 – 10 pm at Century 21 Stores, 821 Market Street, Philadelphia. The 2018 F/W Showcase will feature exclusive capsule collections from second- and third-year Moore students, plus special designs made in collaboration with high school students at Kensington’s U School. Admission is free, but seating is limited and registration is required at moore.edu/2018FWshowcase. Seating begins at 7:45 pm.
In celebration of Moore’s continued partnership with Century 21 Stores, audience members will be surrounded by major fashion inspiration as models walk on the floor in a new and unique location: on the second floor of the store at Eighth and Market streets.
“It is a new beginning for Moore’s Fashion Design department,” said Fashion Design Chair Nasheli Juliana Ortiz-González, who recently debuted her new collection Stranded at Paris Fashion Week. “We are raising a new generation of designers in a new era of fashion design at Moore.” The 170-year-old women’s art and design college’s Fashion Design department has undergone a re-envisioning in the last year. Sustainability is encouraged in all classes, and sophomore Fundamentals of Sewing students are repurposing and upcycling men’s blue and white cotton dress shirts for the show.
“They will take up to three shirts and transform them to become new, well-finished garments,” said Professor Richard Killeaney. “The project will consider how to reduce waste by integrating existing details, like pockets and buttons, into the new design."
Juniors, working with faculty members Sara Keel and Rose Kampert, are presenting mini collections of three looks, from ready-to-wear to active wear to more formal gowns, selected by a professional jury panel.
The show will open with juried designs by students from Philadelphia’s U School High School, who have been working with Moore seniors and The Galleries at Moore in a culmination of a semester-long explorative and collaborative curriculum.
