On Saturday, October 20, Moore hosted its first Fall Open House, welcoming a wide range of students, from transfers who may have taken a break from college or are currently enrolled at other institutions, to ambitious high school freshmen.
The day’s highlights included a rousing welcome from President Cecelia Fitzgibbon, remarks from Liberal Arts Chair Kelly Kirby, and a presentation on how to prepare a stellar portfolio for college applications by Senior Admissions Counselor Kim Brickley.
In addition to hearing from these informative speakers, attendees had the opportunity to tour the campus with current students and to see the various facilities available to enrolled students, including art and design studios, the Fabrication Lab (FabLab), Art Shop, classrooms and the internationally known Galleries at Moore. Prior to touring campus, attendees also met with faculty members representing each undergraduate major, to hear specifics about curriculum, equipment and production materials or programs relevant to their major. They also viewed student artwork and heard about our $1,000 paid internships for each available course of study. In addition, they learned how a small class ratio of about eight students per professor can have a strong and lasting impact on an individual's academic success, in and out of the classroom.
All guests were treated to lunch in the Great Hall, and we answered any and all individual questions students had about Sage Dining Services, Student Affairs, Academic Services, Moore's Locks Career Center, Admissions, and Financial Aid. During the College Information Fair, students who brought artwork with them had the opportunity to participate in individual portfolio reviews, where they received feedback. Some students only had a few pieces with them and needed advice on what to do next, and some students who arrived with completed portfolios had their work accepted for their Moore application. Congrats to all of the applicants who completed their portfolios at Open House!
