If it's a sunny spring day, Jeff Dion's Life Drawing class gets outside.
The students take colorful chalk to the brick patio between Moore College of Art & Design and the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, sketching everything from ballet dancers to demons. One student even drew a chalk version of Dion with his ever-present hat.
Why does Dion take them out?
"There’s a few reasons," said the adjunct professor of Illustration. "It gets them out of the academic classroom, they use their whole body to draw with, they can more easily step back from their drawings to see what they did and it’s a bit of a throwback to childhood sidewalk drawing-- they have fun."
