In conjunction with Black History Month, 70 Moore students took a field trip to New York City February 7 to the Wallach Art Gallery.

They saw the exhibition Posing Modernity: the Black Model from Manet & Matisse to Today. The show emerged from a doctoral thesis.

"We wanted the first-year students to see a highly research-driven exhibition, since the students are exploring their own research topics for their Writing 102 course Critical Inquiries," said Maya Pindyck, PhD, assistant professor and director of the Writers Studio.

Professor Maureen Pelta's Art History students have been studying some of the artists exhibited and discussing related issues involving the body and representation in art.

Faculty members Kelly Kirby, PhD, and Marlena Kleit also served as leaders for the trip.
