Philadelphia, PA – Four Moore College of Art & Design students have received generous scholarships from the Fred and Naomi Hazell Art Award Fund of The Philadelphia Foundation.

This year’s awardees are sophomore Fine Arts majors Cassidy Argo and Sarah Swartz, and Illustration majors sophomore Natalie Rozvadovsky and junior Stephanie Weinger. The Fred and Naomi Hazell Art Award winners are selected by the Fine Arts Department to receive scholarships for excellence in oil painting. The awards were announced at Moore’s Honors Convocation April 12.

“These scholarships will help these talented students continue down their creative paths,” said Moore President Cecelia Fitzgibbon. “We are delighted that they have been recognized for their excellence.”

Naomi Hazell (1895 - 1985) was an active artist, musician, poet and craftswoman. Born in Reading, PA, Hazell graduated from Anton Cross School of Art. She exhibited her paintings in New York and Boston, and taught art classes for senior citizens. The Fred and Naomi Hazell Art Award Fund was established in her will to support an art award in oil painting. The award rotates among three local institutions: Moore College of Art & Design, The Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
