As part of president Cathy Young’s targeted alumni engagement strategy, the Galleries at Moore (TGAM) have been working to create additional space on campus to display the work of Moore graduates. In fall 2023, the Galleries and the Art Shop will combine efforts to celebrate Moore alumni throughout the year.
The Window on Race Gallery will be joined with the existing Art Shop, adding nearly 500 square feet of space that will be dedicated to showcasing alumni work. Positioned at the front-and-center of Moore’s campus, the new alumni gallery features nearly 40 feet of frontage on Race Street and will be visible to the public 24/7.
The initiative will create opportunities for more engaging exhibitions and programs, and support a more diverse representation of graduates through an expanded roster of artists and designers. The program will allow for more frequent exhibition turnover, along with increased alumni engagement through programs, events and networking opportunities. It will also support current students in the spring, using the annual Senior Show as a platform for displaying thesis work of soon-to-be alums.
The Galleries Director Gabrielle Lavin Suzenski will administer the project with support from Suzanne Kopko, Art Shop manager, and Institutional Advancement/Alumni Affairs.
“This is an exciting moment for the Galleries at Moore as we seek to expand our alumni engagement strategies—the celebration of creative production through exhibitions and public programs is our bread and butter!” Suzenski said. “We want to make sure that Moore’s campus remains a familiar space and provides opportunities for our alumni network to be supported and represented through this new Art Shop expansion initiative.”
In September 2022, Moore also began an initiative to feature alumni work in additional locations, including a number of administrative offices, the Board Room, and the former Student Run Gallery on the fourth floor of Wilson Hall. A master facilities artwork plan is also in development, with the goal of ensuring that alumni and student work is placed in prominent areas, allowing prospective students, families and other campus visitors to view these pieces more regularly. These initiatives join existing on- and off-campus spaces, such as the Galleries at Moore at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, as dedicated areas to experience the work of Moore’s talented graduates.
