Philadelphia, PA – Moore College of Art & Design’s production of “Century 21 Department Store presents FASHION SHOW 2018” on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 8:00 pm returns to The Barnes Foundation, 2025 Benjamin Franklin Parkway Philadelphia. General admission tickets are $35, VIP tickets with reserved seating and parking are $150. Tickets can be ordered online at moore.edu/fashionshow18 or by calling 215.965.8586.

At London Fashion Week 2018, Moore’s new Fashion Design Chair Nasheli Juliana Ortiz-González showed her collection Suora (Italian for nun) that was inspired by the Loretto Community of nuns in St. Louis, known for their activism. “My garments are more avant-garde. London is more progressive and open to out-of-the-box ideas,” she said. Progressive and out-of-the-box ideas are helping to inform her re-envisioning of the 170-year-old women’s art and design college’s Fashion Design department and spring fashion show, which she is taking in a new direction.

"During this year, as a program, we have gone through a deep and conscious examination and I expect the viewer to see on the runway the fruits of our interest in research and interdisciplinary learning,” Ortiz-González said. “We want to showcase the extensive grounding in construction, pattern-making, and fabric manipulation. We have ready-to-wear, but we also have experimental, conceptual and sculptural pieces that really push the boundaries. I think the audience is going to see (and enjoy) some great design."

This year, The Barnes’ expansive Annenberg Court will be totally reimagined, transformed into a glamorous, dramatically lit setting that will beautifully showcase the garments. No longer will there be a runway – the models will walk two long aisles on the floor among the audience of over 800 people, giving them an even closer look at the fashions.

The show will now include collections by Fashion Design seniors, each featuring eight looks, preceded by collections by juniors, each with four looks. The multimedia aspect of the show has also been expanded to include brief video profiles of the seniors talking about their inspirations, shown prior to each of the collections. In addition, Ortiz-González’s collaborative spirit will be evident when looking at the show’s backdrop, designed by a student as part of a competition with junior Illustration majors.

FASHION SHOW 2018 is sponsored by Century 21 Department Store, Anthropologie, EMD Performance Materials, P’unk Avenue and Adrienne Vittadini ’66.
