Moore marked National Voter Registration Day September 22 by helping students register to vote for the fall election.
Members of the Student Government Association set up a table in the atrium area of The Galleries at Moore to provide registration forms, information, stickers and masks on the ninth anniversary of the day. This year, more than 100 premier partners and 4,500 community groups joined with National Voter Registration Day to organize both virtual and safe in-person voter registration drives nationwide.
"We explained to people how to register to vote, explained how an absentee ballot works and the deadlines, and a lot of people told us they were already registered," said Devyn Jackson, a junior majoring in Animation & Game Arts. "We helped people learn how to register to vote, and helped some more figure out if they were registered. All in all, it was great that so many students on campus were already registered. It shows how important voting is, and that our generation is on top of it."
Celebrated each year on the fourth Tuesday of September, National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan civic holiday that celebrates democracy and involves the collective efforts of thousands of volunteers, nonprofit organizations, businesses, schools, libraries and election officials from all over the country.
One in four eligible Americans is not registered to vote, and National Voter Registration Day seeks to make voter registration as easy as possible.
