Carrie Mae Weems shared her process for creating art with an appreciative crowd in Moore College of Art & Design's Graham Auditorium Friday, March 23, 2018, in her special lecture Ways and Means. The event, by the Fabric Workshop and Museum, was co-sponsored by Moore.

Weems was greeted with long applause as she addressed the audience. She discussed the significance of her iconic body of work, the need for community involvement and the importance of artistic appropriation.

Considered one of the most influential contemporary American artists, Carrie Mae Weems has investigated universal themes such as family relationships and cultural identity for more than 35 years. Her complex body of work incorporates mediums ranging from photographs and audio recordings to works on fabric and video installations to address issues such as sexism, class, political systems and the consequences of power.

This celebratory lecture marked the conclusion of the Fabric Workshop and Museum's 40th anniversary exhibition, Process and Practice: 40 Years of Experimentation
