Moore students enjoyed a picnic lunch in celebration of the 219th birthday of Moore founder Sarah Peter.
Students sang 'Happy Birthday" and had birthday cake decorated with Sarah Peter's likeness. They also played "Double Dutch" rope jumping in Wilson Hall and did some line dancing in Fox Commons.
Sarah Peter Day honors Sarah Worthington Peter, who founded the Philadelphia School of Design for Women in 1848 in a spare room of her house on 3rd and Spruce Streets. The mission of the school was to “instruct young girls, who have to support themselves, in the arts of drawing, design, and wood engraving, in the belief that they will be able to succeed in these branches of home industry, not only for their own benefit, but also for the benefit of American manufacturers.”
