At this year’s Honor’s Convocation, Curatorial Studies major Shannon Ferrari was named valedictorian for the Class of 2022. We sat down with them for a Q&A about this achievement.

Was it your goal to become valedictorian?
Funnily enough, I told my mom during my sophomore year I wanted to be valedictorian. However, I couldn’t have predicted doing so through a global pandemic. I am very proud of the hard work I accomplished that brought me to this point.
How did it feel to find out you were named valedictorian?
I was incredibly excited! I couldn’t believe it! I was most thankful for all the well wishes from my family, friends and community. I wouldn't have been able to make it to this point without the amazing people in my life who supported me every step of the way.
Are you excited about giving a speech at Commencement?
Honestly, I’m nervous, but I’m also excited! I want to be able to share with my classmates how proud I am we were able to make it to this moment. Attending school during a pandemic was rough, but we did it!
What is your biggest piece of advice for future Moore students?
Go easy on yourself! It may feel like the world is falling apart if you fall behind on an assignment or if something doesn’t go to plan, but it’s okay! The four or five years you may spend at Moore isn’t the end. It’s only the beginning! So be sure to enjoy the time you have with the people you meet while you’re here. Have confidence everything will be okay!
