Moore’s Graduate Studies community consists of unique programs in Socially Engaged Art, Socially Engaged Studio Art and Art Education with an Emphasis in Inclusive Practices that prepare motivated people of all identities with the skills, knowledge and resources to become professional artists, designers and teachers. Here are exciting updates happening with graduate students past and present, as well as faculty members.
Qiaira Riley MFA '21 is celebrating Juneteenth with art. "I will be giving away free ceramics to Black folks through the sponsorship of non-Black folks. In August 2021 I will be offering free ceramics kits and virtual workshops to Black women, femmes, and enbys in Philly and Chicago." Learn more @thegoodhoodwitch.
Megan Galardi MA '21 has been hired as donor relations and events coordinator for Philadelphia Photo Arts Center.
Gina D'Emilio MFA '13 is exhibiting at Zona Maco Art Week 2021 with her artist residency, Proyectos De Residencia in Mexico City. She is also showing three new works online at Artsy.net for imPosible with Dab Art Gallery, in the Flat File at Deanna Evans Projects for 2021, and will be a featured artist in the book Artists of the Bay Area, edited by Jen Tough Gallery.
Huewayne Watson MFA '18 has curated an exhibition about Anna Russell Jones, Moore's first Black graduate, currently on view at the African American Museum in Philadelphia. The exhibition was profiled in the Philadelphia Inquirer and many other news outlets.
Yaroub Al-Obaidi MA '19 will be presenting an adaptation of his thesis “A Proposal for Socially Engaged Artifacts” at the The American Schools of Oriental Research conference in the fall. Al-Obaidi has also been collaborating with artist Sarah Kavage on the installation of an Iraqi mudhif at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education. An opening reception will be held Thursday, June 24th, 7–9 pm, at 8480 Hagy’s Mill Road, Philadelphia, PA, 19128. The project recently got some coverage from WHYY radio and Construction Daily.
Camille O’Connor MA '20 is now manager of tours and group sales at Mural Arts Philadelphia.
Tim Goldsmith MFA '19 is the new curator and education director at the Association of Visual Arts in Chattanooga, TN. He will continue teaching part time in the art department at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Kristen Shahverdian MA '19 and faculty member Carolyn Chernoff have just completed a co-authored essay for a collection on dreams and trauma.
Laura Petrovich-Cheney MFA '11 and Rachel Wallis MA '16 are part of the Here & There: Alumni Invitational on view in The Galleries at Moore through July 17.
