Portfolio Requirements

You should submit a portfolio of 8-12 pieces of artwork in any media or style demonstrating a consistent or developing body of work completed within the past 1-2 years. You may include examples of artwork in any media that emphasizes your artistic strengths. Your ideas, concepts and technical ability should be clearly represented in your portfolio. It is suggested that all applicants submit some examples of direct observational drawings, and highly recommend if you are anticipating majoring in Art Education, Fine Arts, Fashion Design or Illustration.

“Drawing from direct observation” specifically means drawing from what you see in real life, including people, objects and or spaces directly around you. Drawings that are copied from photographs, posters, or another person’s artwork are not considered to be observational drawings.

Film & Digital Cinema applicants may also choose to fulfill the portfolio requirement by submitting a 2-5 minute motion media reel (either several scene examples or a single sample of a film) or a sample of a script or storyboard that demonstrates film techniques or a vision or a film. Please note where projects are collaboratively made and describe your role in these projects. If you do not have film or script samples and are interested in Film & Digital Cinema, we are happy to review your standard visual art portfolio following the guidelines of 8-12 pieces of artwork.

Your portfolio is a critical portion of your application to Moore College of Art & Design. You are highly encouraged to present your portfolio in person during your campus visit and meeting with your admissions counselor, so that you may have an opportunity to discuss your ideas and artistic motivation. Digital images may be submitted through Slideroom. Be sure to include an image inventory that lists title, medium and dimensions.

Portfolio Waiver Option for Select Majors: 

First Year students, who plan to major in Film & Digital Cinema or Interior Design, may choose to waive the required portfolio submission and substitute an essay for admissions evaluation.

National Portfolio Days

During these virtual events you will meet one on one with a representative from the College and receive valuable feedback on your portfolio. We are happy to discuss the specific programs and provide answers to your questions. Many other art and design accredited schools will also be in attendance, so you can receive information from a variety of schools all at the same event!
